What is included?

The New Year’s Comprehension Activity  is a no prep resource. All you have to do is open it up and go! It includes one three paragraph nonfiction story based on a New Year’s theme. Following the story are ten comprehension questions that encompass multiple questioning types. 

What types of questions are used?

The nonfiction story is composed of three paragraphs and has ten follow up questions.

The follow up questions are composed of a wide variety of question types. The question types include: wh- questions, context clues, vocabulary, and main idea. 

Using a wide variety of question types makes students have to think about the story on different levels and really break down the text. Students are able to refer back to the text at any time, therefore providing you with ample individual teaching opportunities on showing them strategies on how to comprehend the text.

Data collection

Our whole job involves data tracking to track the progress of the goals for all of our students. Each student has unique goals so it can be very time consuming to track reliable data on each of their individual goals.

The New Year’s Comprehension Activity is a deck on Boom Cards. These digital task cards are set up to be self-correcting. Therefore, students have instant feedback on if they are correct or incorrect. 

That instant feedback also provides crucial data on their comprehension skills.
